The University of Oxford has been named the best university in the world for the fourth consecutive year by the 2020 edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Oxford saw off competition from Oxbridge rival the University of Cambridge, who finished third, with a total of 28 UK universities featuring in the top global top 200. Imperial College London, University College London, London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Edinburgh all finished in the top 30.
The vice-chancellor of Oxford University, Louise Richardson, said: "Oxford's success is in large part due to our research collaborations with other excellent universities around the world and we remain determined both to deepen and to expand these partnerships, whatever Brexit brings."
The Times Higher Education ranking is the only global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
