The University of Nottingham is a research-focused campus university which has been described as “the nearest thing Britain has to a truly global university” by the Times, with campuses in Malaysia and China as well as the UK. It is the fifth largest university in the UK and a member of the Russell Group, Universitas 21, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the European University Association.

The University of Nottingham is ranked in the top 1% of global universities and regularly features in the UK’s top 30 Higher Education institutions. In 2006, The University of Nottingham was named the UK’s 'University of the Year' by Times Higher Education, and it was nominated for the award in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

Admission to the University is highly competitive and Nottingham regularly receives the largest numbers of applications per undergraduate place in the country. Over 33,000 students are currently enrolled, just over 9,000 of whom are international.

Services for International Students

The International Office at the University of Nottingham offers a wide range of services for international students before and during their studies to give them the best possible preparation and support in the UK. This includes arrival help and orientation for the University and the city, opening a bank account, extending visas, social support and English language support.

As well as numerous trips to places like York, Oxford and Scotland, the University also participates in programmes which allow international students to meet and live with English people nearby, in order improve language skills and learn more about the culture.

Ranking

The University of Nottingham is "one of the most employer friendly universities in the world" according to Virgin Alternative Guide to British Universities, ranking amongst the top 15 most targeted universities in the world by leading employers in the THES world rankings.

Following the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, Nottingham is now ranked eighth in the UK in terms of research power. More than 97% of research from the University is recognised internationally, while 80% is world leading or internationally excellent, the highest research rank.

Accommodation

The University of Nottingham’s accommodation provides more than 6,000 rooms all close to the campus and ranging from modern self-catering flats to traditional halls of residence. 15 halls, housing about 4,000 students across three different campuses, are owned and managed by Nottingham.

Three meals a day are provided as part of the catered accommodation with a varied menu. Nottingham’s accommodation features rooms on each campus that are accessible to students with disabilities, including larger rooms for extra storage or work space, adapted bathrooms and facilities for those with hearing impairments.

Location

University Park Campus, to the west of the city centre, is the principal campus of the University of Nottingham and is one of the most attractive in the UK. The home of Robin Hood is also rich in history, with fantastic culture, sport, nightlife and shopping attractions available across the city.

Nottingham is just 90 minutes away from London via train, with East Midlands airport and Birmingham airport also close by. The University also has campuses in Semenyih, Malaysia, and Ningbo, China.
