Overview

Keele University was the first new UK university of the 20th century and was founded to promote interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary scholarship. Keele pioneered the Dual Honours degree, which is still taken by around 70% of students. Single honours degrees are also available, as is a multi-disciplinary foundation year.

10,000 students from over 140 countries are enrolled at the University, and almost all undergraduates can study abroad for a semester in one of 50 partner universities. Keele consistently impresses in the university rankings, and is currently 40th in the highly regarded Times Higher Education Guide. Following the last National Student Survey, Keele scored an impressive 95%, compared to the national average of 86%.

Keele University is set across 600-acres of parkland, with extensive woods, lakes and beautiful parkland all featuring. The central feature of the estate is the 19th century Keele Hall, registered by English Heritage as Grade II.

Services for International Students

Keele University has a dedicated International Student Support Team and they are responsible for organising the Meet and Greet service at the beginning of term from Manchester Airport and London Heathrow for new students.

There are numerous events, such as the Keele World Festival, designed to introduce international students to each other and learn about other countries. Before Welcome Week, there is also International Orientation, which aims to help students settle into life in a different country. International students can choose to take pre-sessional English lessons, which last up to 12 weeks before the start of term, and a foundation year, which includes English language lessons alongside general study.

Ranking

In the 2014 National Student Survey, Keele was ranked first for student satisfaction, while its Student Union was rated top five in the UK for variety of activities available. The Daily Telegraph ranked Keele’s campus as the 6th most beautiful in the UK. Keele has been placed amongst the world’s top universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2013-2014, positioned in the top 2%.

Following the last Research Excellence Framework in 2014, 97% of Keele research, was deemed world-leading, or of international importance. The Times ranked Keele in the top 5 for student communities.

Accommodation

All first year students are guaranteed University accommodation if Keele was their first choice. There are four halls of residence. Barnes, Lindsay (including The Oaks and Holly Cross) and Horwood are located on the main campus, while The Hawthorns is just outside the university gates in Keele village itself.

Together, these halls provide accommodation for approximately 70 per cent of the full-time students. Both en suite and standard rooms are available in university accommodation, with catered options also possible. More than 3,000 students live on campus, and accommodation in the surrounding area is known to be well-priced.

Location

Keele University’s campus is located near Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire. The University occupies the largest rural campus close to the village of Keele and houses a Science Park and a conference centre.

It is conveniently located in the midlands, under two hours from London and Leeds and one hour from Manchester and Birmingham. The area is known as The Potteries, and is a collection of linked towns and cities that traditionally made pottery during the Industrial Revolution. As such, it features many traditional manufacturing towns and cities surrounded by countryside.

Breckett Front My counsellor contacted me every day throughout the application process and helped me receive an unconditional offer. I am so grateful to SI-UK and will never forget them. I will study very hard as I feel this is the best reward I can give the whole team.
