We offer a range of scholarships and sponsorship opportunities for our undergraduates.

Subject specific scholarships

 

There are subject specific scholarships available to students accepted onto an undergraduate degree programme in the School:

 

Wilson Campbell

Wilson Campbell Scholarships are awards of £1,000 per year for Home/EU Electrical and Electronic Engineering students. They are subject to specific criteria.

 

E3 Academy

The E3 Academy supports the development of young people interested in challenging and well-paid careers in leading UK engineering companies. As well as holding scholarships at the participating universities of Newcastle, Bristol, and Nottingham, E3 scholars are supported with vacation work placements, summer schools and company mentoring, leading to employment after graduation.

Sevcon

Sevcon, one of our key industrial partners, are providing a generous student sponsorship scheme. Based in Gateshead, they are a global company with offices across USA, China, France, Japan, Germany, and Korea. They are a market leader in high quality motor controllers and system components for electric vehicles. They are dedicated to the design and development of cutting-edge products that have a positive impact on society.

Sevcon is offering to sponsor a Stage 1 undergraduate student. This includes paying tuition fees and providing paid work during the summer. The application process opens in September/October each year. Students with marks of 60% and over in their stage 1 exams are encouraged to apply. The successful student can expect to be working in the company throughout the summer, with their fees being paid from September of stage 2.

 

UKESF Scholarship Scheme

The UKESF Scholarship Scheme connects undergraduates to leading employers in the Electronics sector and provides an annual bursary, paid summer work placements and a paid-for residential workshop. www.ukesf.org/universities/scholarship-scheme

Scholarships for all Engineering students

 

We offer scholarships for students on all Engineering disciplines:

Engineering Excellence Scholarship

An Engineering Excellence Scholarship of £1,000 will be awarded to all new undergraduates of a degree offered by the School of Engineering who:

  • exceed their conditional offer by one or more A level grades (or equivalent) excluding A level General Studies
  • have made Newcastle University their first choice (Conditional Firm) by 1 August

The award is for the first year of study only.
Applicants to Engineering Foundation Year degrees will also receive the award subject to meeting the criteria specified.

UKNEST Science and Engineering Scholarships

UKNEST Science and Engineering Scholarships offer up to 10 undergraduate scholarships worth £3,000 per year (plus mentoring and work experience opportunities) for students who are interested in future employment in the Naval Defence Sector.

The Amec Foster Wheeler Natural Resources - Chief Operating Officer’s Bursary

This bursary offers an award of £1,000 for up to three students studying in the School of Engineering.

CyberFirst Student Bursary

The CyberFirst Student Bursary provides an annual bursary of £4,000 for each year of degree study in a STEM Subject, with work experience opportunities.
